Comment s'inscrire ? Description :

From its roots in the nineteenth-century blues and folk music of the African slaves, and with the incorporation of European art music, jazz went on to become America’s unique art form and its major contribution to the world of music. The course will provide a general overview of the development of jazz beginning with its birth in the early twentieth century in New Orleans with ragtime and Dixieland and Louis Armstrong ; to Kansas City and the big band swing era in the 1930s with Count Basie ; to New York in the 1940s and the suave compositions of Duke Ellington ; to the bebop style of the 1950s with Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillepsie, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane ; to the fusion style of the 1960s with Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. The course will also include interpretations of the jazz standards by legendary vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
